Young people who would like to volunteer for a short time, but do not have the time to organize their trip, can contact an agency or sending organization. There, you can choose a project, get help with the organization of the trip and the immigration formalities. For this, you pay a fee, which is set by the sending organization and can vary.
There are a few differences between the organizations: there are non-profit organizations, religious organizations, commercial organizations and organizations based in the destination country ... so be smart and get well informed. Short voluntary assignments paired with a vacation trip are often referred to as volunteer-tourism.
Short voluntary assignments last between two weeks to three months. A special format of short volunteer assignment is the International Camp or Workcamp: a group of young volunteers works together for a few weeks on a specific project (for example, in the social, craft, cultural or environmental field).
Good to know: There are youth camps for adolescents under the age of 18, most of which are set in Europe.
